Although the title page is absent, the dedication is dated 1723. Samuel Croxall was an Anglican churchman, writer and translator, particularly noted for this translation of Aesop's Fables. It is told in an easy colloquial style and followed by 'instructive applications'. Croxall aimed his work at children. CONDITION Rebound in a speckled calf binding with gilt lettering to the spine. Externally, rubbing to spine and extremities. Front board is held by the cords only. Rear hinge is slightly strained. Internally, firmly bound and bright. Some instances of light spotting and handling marks. Title page is absent. Paper repairs and some loss of text affecting dedication pages, and pages 197-202. Overall Condition: Good Only GLOSSARY OF TERMS Overall Condition (Dustwrapper condition rating is shown after that for the book itself, where a dustwrapper is present) Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear Very Good Indeed - Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy Very Good - Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy Good - Meaning not very good.
