François-Marie Arouet (1694-1778), known by his nom de plume Voltaire, was a French Enlightenment writer, historian, and philosopher famous for his wit, his criticism of Christianity — especially the Roman Catholic Church — as well as his advocacy of reason, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and separation of church and state. Included in this book are eight volumes of Voltaire's stories including "Zadig," "The Princess of Babylon," "The White Bull," "Candide," "The Huron," "Micromegas," "The Study of Nature," "The Man of Forty Crowns," "The Sage and the Atheist," "The Philosophy of History," "The Ignorant Philosopher," etc. Condition info: Not a modern reprint. Leatherbound 1927 edition from Walter J. Black, New York, N.Y. A copy that has been read, but remains in reasonably good condition for its age. All pages are intact and the cover has normal wear from age. The spine has some chipping and the cover and edges may show signs of wear from age and handling or reading.
