About the author: Horace Greeley, (1811-1872), American newspaper editor who is known especially for his vigorous articulation of the North's antislavery sentiments during the 1850s. About the work: American Conflict is an important contemporary history of the Civil War steeped in the emphatic ideals of slavery and freedom. In the first of these two handsomely illustrated volumes, Greeley records his version of the entire history of the nation from 1776 to the second year of the Civil War. The second analyzes the final three years of the war and includes substantial material on emancipation and the crushing of the rebellion. Greeley traced the seeds of the war and included a large cache of primary sources to make his case; e.g. public documents and speeches. Failed compromise is the predominating theme. The work is particularly notable for the presentation of predictions about the years to come, in particular regarding the slavery question. The importance of Greeley's account of the Civil War is still considered important. In addition to offering extensive accounts of battlefield events, Greeley highlighted the troubled story of African Americans.

Three cheers for your eBay business! After contacting a number of sellers, you were the only one who took the time to answer ALL of my questions prior to the purchase. Recently I had to return books as sellers' condition ratings did not match the quality of items sent. Also, many thanks for carefully and securely wrapping and packing the volume to avoid damage in transit. I am very grateful for the top-tier support, exemplary customer care, and yeoman service. Rating: A++++
