CHILDREN'S CLASSIC FAVORITES - AND ADULTS LIKE THEM TOO THIS BOOK HAS BEEN A FAVORITE FOR MANY YEARS and has appeared in a great many formats - The Blue Fairy Book edited by Andrew Lang. It is one of the popular series of classic books for children printed for Barnes & Noble by the Sterling Publishing Company - attractive and nicely designed leather bounds that are likely to be collected in sets not only for reading enjoyment but also for a handsome display on the family bookshelves. Several of them have been issued - internationally favorite titles like The Wizard of Oz, The Little Mermaid, Grimm's Fairy Tales, The Wind in The Willows, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Heidi, A Little Princess and others. Young readers are certain to enjoy these lovely books, but so will older members of the family who value quality products - and who may be tempted to dip into them for happy bedtime reading memories . THE BLUE FAIRY BOOK STARTED LIFE as one of a series of children's story collections that were published from 1889 to 1913 and which gained fame as Andrew Lang's Coloured Fairy Books , each separate collection identified by its own color - The Red Fairy Book, The Green Fairy Book, The Yellow Fairy Book and so forth. Lang who died in 1912, was a Scottish writer - novelist, poet and critic - but he did not actually write the fairy stories; rather he collected them from various sources with his wife and other helpers doing much of the translating and rewriting. This collection, selections from The Blue Book , contains some of the best-loved stories of children's fiction - Aladdin and his lamp, Puss in Boots , Jack the Giant-killer , Dick Whittington and others. It also includes familiar tales found in other collections. IT HAS BEEN BOUND IN BONDED LEATHER AND IS BRAND NEW, still in its plastic wrapping and never read. Its lively black-and-white illustrations ( see above ) are by Henry J. Ford and G. P. Jacomb Hood. The cover design is in silver and gold on a royal blue background with a full color paste-on. The page ends are gilded for an attractive appearance as well as protection of the paper and it has a ribbon sewn-in page-marker so that small readers will not be tempted to bend page corners and spoil the book. Since it is new there are no signs of prior ownership such as an inscription or a bookplate. It awaits its first owner. It is of gift quality. Publisher: Barnes & Noble ISBN: 978-1-4351-6217-4.
