A Select Collection of Views and Ruins in Rome and its Vicinity ; Recently Executed From Drawings Made Upon the Spot by Merigot, James Published by J. Hearne, London, 1819 Rare 1819 A Select Collection of Views and Ruins in Rome and its Vicinity Illustrated Size 9.5/8” x 12.1/8” with 61 plates ( See Pictures for list) Plates have first published in 1796 on some of them. No date in book. Book has wear being 200+ years old. Cover has some separation but is intact and is pictured. Found this information. This work was first published in two parts in 1797 and 1799 respectively. According to Lowndes this work has been twice reprinted 'first by White and Cochrane, about 1805, subsequently by Mr Hearne about 1819'. This is therefore the third edition overall James (Jacques) Merigot (ca. 1720-1799) was a French artist, engraver and publisher, active in London starting in the early 1790's. The plates of this work represent landscapes or Roman ruins and each of them is accompanied by a bilingual English-French explanatory text on one or two pages.
