Description
Bookrespect We classify our books...FINE/VERY GOOD/GOOD/FAIR/READING COPY ONLY (+ or -) POEMS of JOHN KEATS 1795-1821 with drawings by Marie Preaud Webb Publisher: James Hewetson & Son (thus published after 1907), assumed first and only edition. Dustjacket: none Illustrated: by Marie Preaud Webb. The artist was born in London in 1879 and died in Chichester, Sussex, in 1964. Her main period of artistic production was in the first decade of the 1900’s, mainly doing illustrations for James Hewetson and Son, the publisher of her Rubaiyat edition. Cecil Charles Hewetson, the ‘son’ in the publishing firm, provided the Foreward to the Rubaiyat edition, and, in 1910, he and Marie Preaud Webb were married. Condition: Suede, leather-bound cover with remnants of gilt title to damaged spine, gilt motif title to front cover (see scans), LOOSE BINDING,in ACCEPTABLE CONDITION, complete but needs re-binding with bookplate presentation dated 1910 to prelims, marbelled endpapers. All pages intact but beginnings and ends dis-bound, cover loose.(see scans). The faded place ribbon is detached but still in situ. This is the third of four rare publications in Hewetson's Queen's Quartos series. The others were (1) The Dream of Gerontius; (2) The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam and (4) Over the Hills, an Open Air Anthology. All have wonderful illustrations by Marie Webb, in the Art Nouveau style. Her illustrations are often taken from the books and sold individually. Reproductions are offered at 99 Euros in Europe. There are YouTube postings about Webb's artwork Nos (1) Gerontius and (2) Rubaiyat are available, if scarce This 3rd book of the series is unavailable anywhere that I can find. Bob Forest says on his website ““The Queen’s Quartos” listing of Fig. 2 indicates that no.3 of the series was “Keats’ Poems”, and no.4 was “Over the Hills: an Open–air Anthology” "I have never seen either of them, and a search of Jisc Library Hub Discover (formerly COPAC) reveals that no major library in the UK has them either”. Thus this book is a RARE copy, but needs re-binding. POSTAGE: Postage is free within Australia and includes Australia Post tracking. Orders are posted within 1 business day.
