NOVELS & OTHER NARRATIVES 1986-1991 by Philip Roth was published by the LIBRARY OF AMERICA in 2008. Founded in 1979 the LIBRARY OF AMERICA , a nonprofit organization, was created with a unique and unprecedented goal: to curate and publish authoritative editions of America's best writing, including acknowledged classics, neglected masterpieces, and historically significant documents and texts. Now widely recognized as the definitive collection of American writing, the LIBRARY OF AMERICA comprises over 300 volumes encompassing all periods and genres and showcasing the vitality and variety of Americas great writing. The collection includes novels, stories, poetry, speeches and sermons, war reporting, science fiction and other genres. Works are selected for their literary merit and historical significance rather than on their sales potential. Rejecting the more experimental fiction of the 60s and 70s, he pioneered a new realism reinventing the American short story during the eighties, heading the so called "K-mart realists". Set in trailer parks and shopping malls, they are stories of banal lives that turn on a seemingly insignificant detail. Carver writes with a meticulous economy, suddenly bringing a life into focus. As well as being a master of the short story, he was an accomplished poet publishing several highly acclaimed volumes, enjoy. ****************************** - bound in fine quality cloth - smyth-sewn binding - printed on acid-free paper - sewn-in ribbon marker - durable slipcase - 8 1/2" by 5 3/8" -675 pages ********************************** Raymond Carver's COLLECTED STORIES contains the following: - WILL YOU PLEASE BE QUIET, PLEASE? - WHAT WE TALK ABOUT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT LOVE - CATHEDRAL - BEGINNERS - OTHER STORIES AND SELECTED ESSAYS ***************************** THE BOOK AND SLIPCASE ARE IN MINT CONDITION, STILL SEALED IN THE ORIGINAL PUBLISHERS WRAP. ********************************** Note: any glare is from my camera, not the book. Item was received as described. The packaging was excellent. Shipping cost was overpriced. I paid $12 for shipping. It took a week to receive because it was sent via media mail. The media mail label said it only cost $7.50. Nowhere in the listing did it say shipping was media mail. Where did the rest of my shipping payment go?
