Description
Leather bound, collectible books from the Franklin Library. Offered here is a set of leather bound, collectible books that would be an excellent gift for any bibliophile. They are five volumes on the general subject of war. They include: Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms; Crane’s The Red Badge of Courage; Bruce Catton’s A Stillness at Appomattox and The Coming Fury (signed by the author); and The Bold and Magnificent Dream by Bruce and William Catton. In the mid-70s through the early 80s, the Franklin Library published the 100 Greatest Books of All Time series. All books in the 100 Greatest Books of All Time series were bound in genuine leather binding with 22k gold accents and sewn-in bookmarks. The Franklin Library also published the 100 Greatest Books of All Time outside of this time range, and those versions of the books used the faux leather, leatherette bindings and did not include the sewn-in bookmark that the genuine leather bound version has. The Franklin Library closed in 2000; therefore, all titles in the 100 Greatest Books of All Time series are out of print and only available via secondary sources such as high-end collectible booksellers or via eBay, Etsy or another online auction house. Each book is in full leather with hubbed spines. They are accented in 22kt gold, printed on archival paper with gilded edges. The endsheets are of moire fabric with a sewn-in silk ribbon page marker. Smyth sewing and concealed muslin joints. All volumes are in excellent, pristine condition; unmarked, unread, tight, square, and clean; they should be handled as new when first opened. Any reasonable offer considered.
