Description
BOOK TITLE: HISTORY OF ENGLAND Vol II FROM THE ACCESSION OF JAMES THE SECOND Five volumes make up this set – this is ONE of three we are listing separately. AUTHOR: LORD MACAULAY PUBLISHER: LONGMAN, GREEN, LONGMAN AND ROBERTS PUBLISHED: 1860 CONTENTS: “The History of England from the Accession of James the Second (1848) is the full title of a five-volume work by Lord Macaulay (1800–1859) more generally known as The History of England. It covers the 17-year period from 1685 to 1702, encompassing the reign of James II, the Glorious Revolution, the co-regency of William III and Mary II, and up to William III's death. “ “An influential example of Whig interpretation of English history, written by Thomas Babington Macaulay – spanning from 1685 to1702” BINDING: Full leather hardcover edition. Gilded titles and decoration on the spine and gilded pattern to edges etc – see photos Marbled edges and end pages (af) EDITION: Unknown – someone else has listed one from 1850 as the 7 th edition – first edition appears to be 1848. NUMBER OF PAGES : 686 including Index LANGUAGE: English ILLUSTRATED: No but possibly had a front plate. CONDITION: Exterior shows it is antique especially the spine that has had the most exposure to air, light etc but overall it is good to very good with no damage. No hand written dedications etc No foxing on any pages I found. Looks clean and almost defect free on the printed pages. Some age related marks to leather binding but not a lot. Edges of book has expected level of bruising with the corner bent in slightly from the many decades of storage and/or viewing but nothing too bad – see photos. The first marbled page has partly torn away from the binding – not fully but about 2/3 off so care needs to be taken. The next page, which is the first title page, is not torn but is a little loose but isn’t falling out as such - there could have been a plate here that has been removed- not sure. DIMENSIONS: It measures approximately: 22cm high x 14.5 cm wide x 4cm thick OTHER COMMENTS: Apparently some later historians consider this account of English history to be quite biased. *** This book was part of our ‘library’ that we have moved around a number of times – need to down size now as we have reached ‘that’ time of life and so we are hoping these fascinating books will find a new home to bring pleasure and enjoyment. The two demi tasse cups are truly lovely! They are in perfect condition and just as described. They were very well photographed. The seller shipped them very quickly. They were packed carefully and arrived safely. I think they were reasonably priced. I am very pleased with this purchase and would happily buy from this seller again.
