Description
Franklin Library leather edition of Luigi Pirandello's "Stories," Illustrated by Paul Geiger, Translated from Italian by Lily Duplaix, a Limited edition, one of the COLLECTED STORIES OF THE WORLD'S GREATEST WRITERS series, published in 1981. Bound in a brown leather, the book has amber moire silk end leaves, hubbed spine, acid-free paper, a satin book marker, Symth-sewn binding, gold gilding on three edges---in near FINE condition. Luigi Pirandello, who lived from 1867-1936, was born in Sicily. At age 13, he confronted his father's mistress with the misery she had brought to the family. In 1889, Pirandello left Italy to study in Bonn, Germany, settling in Rome in 1891. Some of Pirandello's tales are sad; others offer hope. His aim was to get his readers to see and perhaps to join him in his "ferocious derision of destiny." Selections are from "Sicilian Tales," Tales of Humor and Irony," "Tales of Frustration," and "Tales of Anguish and Hope." Pirandello was awarded the coveted NOBEL PRIZE in 1934. 302 pages.
