Description

Franklin Library leather edition of Virgil's "The Decameron," Translated by G.H. McWilliam, Illustrated by Murray Tinkelman, a Limited edition, one of the 100 GREATEST BOOKS OF ALL TIME series, published in 1979. Bound in deep hunter green leather, the book has green moire silk end leaves, satin book marker, acid-free paper, Symth-sewn binding, hubbed spine, gold gilding on three edges---in near FINE Condition. "The Decameron" is a collection of short stories by the 14th-century Italian poet, Giovanni Boccaccio, who lived from 1313-1375. The book is structured as a frame story containing 100 tales told by a group of seven young women and three young men. The group shelters in a secluded villa outside Florence in order to escape the BLACK DEATH, which was afflicting the city. The tales range from the erotic to the tragic with wit and practical jokes. The book is considered a masterpiece of early Italian prose----highly controversial in its day---because of the sexual references. In the Second Story, an Abbess rises hurriedly from her bed in the dark when it is reported to her that one of her nuns is abed with a lover. In the Fourth Story, Cecco Fortarrigo gambles away everything he possesses at Buonconvento, together with the money of Cecco Angiuliere. In the First Story of the tenth day, a worthy knight enters the service of the King of Spain, by whom he feels that he is ill requited; so that King gives him irrefutable proof that the fault lies, not with himself, gut with the knight's own cruel fortune, in the end rewarding him most handsomely. 738 pages. Quite the surprised, at first I thought I ordered something from a pet shop because of the box turns out to be my order xD. My books were well packaged no noticeable box damage internally and externally. They were as described in the listing and shipped promptly in a 2 weeks window. Would recommend seller.
