Bound in hunter green leather, the book has ivory French moire silk end leaves, gold tooling around the moire silk end leaves, satin book marker, hubbed spine, gold gilding on three edges---in FINE condition---NEW---in Original box with 22 Pages of NOTES FROM THE EDITOR. [Photos are from a personal copy.] Charles Dickens, who lived from 1812-1870, was born near PORTSMOUTH, England but his family moved to LONDON when he was two years old. Dickens was thirty-eight when he launched his twopenny weekly. Celebrating the Christman season had been growing in popularity through the Victorian era . The Christmas tree had been introduced in Britain during the 18th century, and its use was popularized by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Their practice was copied in many homes across the country. In the early 19th century there had been a revival of interest in Christmas carols. Dickens had an interest in Christmas.
