THIS IS A SCARCE VINTAGE HEIRLOOM EASTON WITH LAVISH DEEP GILT IMPRESSIONS TO THE BOARDS AND SPINE with A BEAUTIFUL FULL COLOR PLATES . THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST HIGHLY-PRIZED EDITIONS OF THIS CONRAD MASTERPIECE. 🍍 NOT INCLUDED… 😃 ABOUT THE BOOK: Youth is probably Conrad’s most anthologized short story and has been for most of its existence. It's easy to see why. It's a great story of adventure on the high seas that also manages to capture a more universal human experience—that of passing through exultant but fleeting youth. Typhoon is about one unremarkable steamship captain, pitted against a typhoon of incredible fury. Captain Macwhirr is the captain of the Nan-shan. He has a reputation as a solid, steadfast man. So, when multiple clues start pointing to trouble ahead and his second-in-chief cautions him, he is only moderately concerned and unwilling to change course and lose precious time and money - a decision that may prove fatal for him and his two hundred Chinese workers... Henry Whalley is a true sailor, earning years of experience as a ship’s captain before his retirement. Faced with unexpected financial problems and a desire to help his married daughter earn her place in the world, Whalley is forced to sell his boat and buy his way back into service on a trade vessel. But Whalley is living so close to financial ruin that any small deviation from his course will put him over the edge . . . The End of the Tether is one of the many books that author Joseph Conrad wrote about sailors and the sea. Using his own personal experiences as a merchant marine as the foundation for his writing, Conrad produced some of the most realistic sea tales of the nineteenth century. CONDITION: Book is in LIKE NEW condition for its age with only one unobtrusive blindstamp to the front free endpage and couple of negligible rubs to the gilt page ends (SEE PICS FOR FURTHER DETAILS). This book was wrapped so carefully and in so many layers that it took 5 minutes to open it! It is in beautiful condition, exactly as described and was worth every penny. Considering it shipped from the other side of the country it got here in a reasonable amount of time. Couldn’t be happier!
