Stanley traveled to Zanzibar in March 1871 and outfitted an expedition with the best of everything, requiring no fewer than 200 porters. This 700 miles (1,100 km) expedition through the tropical forest became a nightmare. His thoroughbred stallion died within a few days after a bite from a Tsetse fly, many of his carriers deserted and the rest were decimated by tropical diseases. Stanley found Livingstone on 10 November 1871, in Ujiji near Lake Tanganyika in present-day Tanzania, and may have greeted him with the now-famous, "Doctor Livingstone, I presume?" This famous phrase may be a fabrication, as Stanley tore out of his diary the pages relating to the encounter. Even Livingstone's account of the encounter fails to mention these words. Stanley joined Livingstone in exploring the region, establishing for certain that there was no connection between Lake Tanganyika and the River Nile. On his return, he wrote a book about his experiences : How I Found Livingstone; travels, adventures, and discoveries in Central Africa. Please Email Me With Any Questions You Might Have! As a lover of history, I can’t wait to read these books. They arrived in fine condition as described the seller. They were carefully packaged to avoid any damage during shipping. The seller answered my questions about the books. I have purchased more than one item from this seller and wouldn’t hesitate to buy from them again. A very positive experience.

The item was exactly as advertised (the seller always provides detailed photos and descriptions on every item). The packaging of items for shipment is always well done, and orders arrive faster than expected. The seller has a great variety of high quality items for sale and often offers discounts on items.
