Easton Press leather edition of Jean Selz's "Matisse," a COLLECTOR'S edition, Printed in Italy, and published in 1990. Bound in red leather, the book has camel tan French moire silk end leaves, satin book marker, Symth-sewn binding, acid-free paper, gold gilding on three edges---in near FINE condition. Henri Matisse, who lived from 1869---1954, was born in the north of France, the son of a grain merchant. In 1887-1888, Matisse studied Law in Paris. In 1892, he attended evening classes at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. In 1900, he had an impressive blond beard and wore pince-nez glasses. In 1894, his daughter Marguerite was born. In 1897, Matisse discovered Impressionism. In 1898, he married Amelie Alexandrine Parayre. In 1899, his son Jean was born. In 1906, Matisse had a one-man show at Druet's. In 1910, he exhibited 66 paintings at Bernheim-Jeune and traveled to Spain. He later exhibited in New York, London, Stockholm, Moscow and Berlin. In 1936, Matisse drew etchings for James Joyce's "Ulysses." In 1952, the Matisse Museum in Cateau opened. 96 pages, including a Biographical Outline, a Selected Bibliography and an Index.
