Description

Easton Press leather edition of Daniel Defoe's "The Life and Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe of York, Mariner," Frontispiece Portrait of Defoe, a COLLECTOR'S edition, Introduction by J. Cuthbert Hadden, one of the 100 GREATEST BOOKS EVER WRITTEN series, published in 1976. Bound in deep hunter green leather, the book has ivory moire silk end leaves, acid-free paper, Symth-sewn binding, hubbed spine, a satin book marker, gold gilding on three edges---in near FINE condition. Daniel Defoe, who lived from 1660---1731, was born in London, the son of a butcher. By 1683 Defoe had set himself up as a merchant, traveling far and wide in Britain and on the Continent, trading in such commodities as hosiery, tobacco, marine insurance, diving bells, brandy and civet cats." Defoe married in 1683 and fathered six children. He went bankrupt in 1692 after his ships were seized during the war with France. Defoe was interested in politics and opposed Catholic James II, joining the ill-fated Monmouth rebellion of 1685. "Robinson Crusoe" is the 1704 story of ALEXANDER SELKIRK, who had run away to sea and joined a privateering expedition under Capt. William Dampier. Selkirk was put ashore on the uninhabited island of Juan Fernandez. He was rescued in 1709. Defoe embellished the story, giving minute detail of the methods by which, with the help of a few stores and utensils saved from the wreck and the exercise of infinite ingenuity, Crusoe built himself a house, domesticated goats, and made himself a boat. After many years, Crusoe rescued the poor savage, FRIDAY, from death. Ultimately, Crusoe and Friday were discovered by an English ship. When "Robinson Crusoe" was originally issued in 1719, the book had a phenomenal sale, being reprinted several times. 299 pages. I offer Combined shipping.

Quite the surprised, at first I thought I ordered something from a pet shop because of the box turns out to be my order xD. My books were well packaged no noticeable box damage internally and externally. They were as described in the listing and shipped promptly in a 2 weeks window. Would recommend seller.
