Description

Easton Press leather edition of Charles Dickens's "Great Expectations," a COLLECTOR'S edition, Illustrated by Edward Ardizzone, one of the 100 GREATEST BOOKS EVER WRITTEN series, published in 1979. Bound in brown leather, the book has brown moire silk end leaves, satin book marker, hubbed spine, gold gilding on three edges---in near FINE condition---except for 'very minor' imperfection to gilt on fore edge---mentioned for accuracy. Charles Dickens, who lived from 1812-1870, was born near PORTSMOUTH, England but his family moved to LONDON when he was two years old. "Great Expectations" was originally published in 1860 and is the story of Philip Pirrip, commonly known as "Pip," a village boy brought up by his termagant sister, the wife of the gentle, humorous, kindly blacksmith Joe Gargery. He is introduced to the house of MISS HAVISHAM, a lady half-crazed by the desertion of her lover on her bridal night, who, in a spirit of revenge, has brought up the girl ESTELLA to use her beauty as a means of torturing men. Pip falls in love with Estella, and aspires to become a gentleman. Money and expectations of more wealth come to him from a mysterious source, which he believes to be Miss Havisham. Pip goes to London, and in his new mode of life meanly abandons the devoted Joe Gargery. His unknown benefactor proves to be an escaped convict, ABEL MAGWITCH, to whom he as a boy had rendered a service. . .457 pages. I offer combined shipping.

Quite the surprised, at first I thought I ordered something from a pet shop because of the box turns out to be my order xD. My books were well packaged no noticeable box damage internally and externally. They were as described in the listing and shipped promptly in a 2 weeks window. Would recommend seller.
