Up for a 7 Day Auction is this book: "Compendium of English Literature"...Consisting of biographical sketches of the authors, selections from their works, Explanatory, Illustrative, and directions to the best editions and various criticisms. It was compiled by Charles D. Cleveland. Cleveland had a girls school in Philadelphia. It was published in 1871 by A. S. Barnes & Co. The first edition was published in 1847 or 48. It is chronologically arranged from Sir John Mandeville to William Cowper. There is an alphabetical list of authors at the front of the volume. It is 776 pages in length. It is a quarter leather bound. The embossed spine shows wear commensurate with it's age but really is still in quite good condition. There is even toning predominant throughout with more foxing evident towards the first few and last few pages.. As photographed, there is visible evidence of water staining mostly towards the front and end of the book at the bottom of the pages and up the center a bit. There is the random mark or spot but overall in quite nice condition. The binding is tight. Happy Bidding!
