I love these books so I will entertain offers because I’m not a Thackray fan, they’re so gorgeous and except for the spines, in such amazing condition for being about 150 years old that I would just assume keep them then sell them unless I can sell them for enough to pay for something that I would actually enjoy reading Also about the condition: the corners have some where and the leather is fraying around the edges on all of the volumes The spines, I think you can see from the photos have lost most of the gilt, lettering and overlaid leather that I think was there originally and the leather that remains on the spines is also pretty dry and cracked. The astonishing thing to me as a non-expert on antique books, is that these books have spines and covers all attached and in fact, while some of them are a little loose, they’re all in good enough condition meaning that the spine and the covers are all tight enough that you can open the cover and read the books in the condition that they’re in. I’ve never seen this many books this old, where at least a few of them weren’t falling apart. I think the reason they’re in this condition is the other thing that’s notable is the marble coloring on the edges is incredibly bright (n.b., the bright marble coloring on the front and back cover, and all three edges, is noticeably less vibrant on the top edge of each volume.) I took photos with the flash and without the flash to try to show the color, but I think it’s more noticeable in person how bright the marble color on the covers on the long edge and the bottom edge of each book is versus the top edge. Several volumes have marbled edges in such good condition that I don’t see how anyone ever read them because there are just none of the telltale signs like a dog eared page or a small tear or discoloration or signs of wear. None of that is present on some of these books but --- again --- these are sold AS IS since they’re about 150 years old --- there is absolutely no return of these books so please don’t buy them because I am saying that I think that some of the books are an amazing condition for their age If anything about the listing that is unclear in anyway please ask and thanks for looking!
