Bound in full soft leather, with gilt lettering to the front board. These volumes of Harper's new monthly magazine, are bound together and as a consequence the pagination in incorrect. All volume contain the text 'Trilby' by George Du maurier, plus poetry by various poets. Trilby (1894) is a gothic horror novel by George du Maurier and one of the most popular novels of its time, perhaps the second best selling novel of the Fin de siècle period after Bram Stoker's Dracula. Trilby is set in the 1850s in an idyllic bohemian Paris. Though it features the hijinks of three lovable English artists — especially the delicate genius Little Billee — its most memorable character is Svengali, a Jewish rogue, a masterful musician, and an irresistible hypnotist. CONDITION In a limp calf binding. There is wear to the extremities, including a water ring stain to the front board, plus rubbing and scratching to the boards and spine. Front hinge has failed with the text block detached from the front board and spine but attached to the rear board. The rear board is firmly attached to the front board. The binding is slightly loose, with the chords visible throughout and pages 373/4 and the rear blank-end page are detached but present. The pages are generally clean and bright, although there are handling marks and some minor brown spots on various pages. Additional paper has been stuck on to pages 587, 350 and 874, which cover the bottom half of these pages. I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.

Excellent in every respect; much better than originally described and pictured. The shipping was exceptionally fast, and the books arrived precisely on schedule. The packaging was both robust and thoughtful, which always makes a most distinct difference. I am grateful for this great value and for your having accepted my offer. Thank you so much for a truly pluperfect transaction.

The shipping was lightning fast, arriving in 3 days from UK to US. The book was packaged with extreme care, very important for an antique book. The overall condition of the book is also unbelievable for its age, even better than described. I’ve purchased numerous other books from this seller, and the quality and price have always been outstanding. Great eBay seller. Thanks!
