With an advertisement to the rear of volume II. Undated; dated 1885 via Jisc. CONDITION In half calf bindings, with cloth covered boards. Gilt detailing to back strip. Rubbing to spine heads, with small loss to head of volume III. Minor rubbing to joints of volumes III and IV. Hinges of volumes I and III and front hinge of volume II and IV strained, but firmly held. Volumes I, III and IV lacking a front blank, with volume I lacking half title. Inscription to half title of volumes II, III and IV, and to the title page of volume I. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, but with spotting and instances of foxing throughout. I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
