Description
Black, three-quarter, leather bound, hardcovers. Decorated with gilt titles and gilt stamped front covers. Books are calf leather over pebble cloth. Pages gilded on all sides. Illustrated by portraits engraved on steel, from Daguerreotypes of the greatest and most intellectual actors of the age. Undated, but circa 1860-1865. Large books standing just over 11" tall by 8" wide. Set contains the complete works of Shakespeare with Histories, Tragedies, and Comedies. Very good condition. Leather has some rubbed areas on spines and corners. Books still look great, especially for age. Covers firmly attached. Bindings tight and square, pages clean and bright white. Handwritten signature from a previous owner on the first free end paper; no other writing or marks.

The order was shipped promptly, securely wrapped, the content was preserved, free from underlining and markings. Although they were stamped from library, the Seller has an eye for rare findings. These will propel my researchs well beyond what is covered in physical classes. A bit pricey, but worth the investment. As Sir William Osler states: “It is hard for me to speak of the value of libraries in terms which would not seem exaggerated… I have received incalculable benefits.”
