Illustrated throughout, with numerous vignettes across all volumes. William Hone was an English writer, satirist and bookseller. This work has many anecdotes, poems, advertisements and sporting information. CONDITION In half calf bindings with marbled paper boards. Externally, rubbed to the paper covered boards and to the spines. All volumes have been rebacked with original backstrips laid down and preserved. spines are lightly rubbed with fading to the gilt. Prior owner's notes to the recto of rear endpaper. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are generally bright. Occasional light spots to pages. Overall Condition: Very Good GLOSSARY OF TERMS Overall Condition (Dustwrapper condition rating is shown after that for the book itself, where a dustwrapper is present) Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear Very Good Indeed - Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy Very Good - Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy Good - Meaning not very good. I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
