Grimshawe Leatherbound, All Gilt Edges Fine Woodcut Illustrations Cowper, pronounced 'Cooper', was a famous poet and writer of hymns, most notably the one that begins "The Lord works in mysterious ways..." He lived his life under the oppression of mental illness and died finally from suicide in 1800 but in the meanwhile his journey through life had many differing episodes, most famously his transition from Atheism to an evangelical Christianity. As a writer of many hymns, among other reasons, his life is a favorite subject of theologians to this day. For a closer look at his life you need only go to Youtube for a variety of presentations to meet every need. This would make a great gift for a Reverend or perhaps the religious student in your life. The book is finely bound in leather with three shiny gold gilt edges with text presented in a double column format that puts one in mind of an ancient tome. *There is no copyright page or printing history. The introductory page is dated 1848, and the style of the production is more common to the first half of the 19th century.
