An anthology of fables, highlighted with the illustrations of James Northcote. Including a total of one-hundred and one fables, such as 'Bee and Butterfly', 'Decree of Apollo', 'Hare and Bramble', 'Tyrant and Philosopher', and more. Illustrated with a vignette title page, and head- and tail-pieces. Northcote was a painter who trained under Joshua Reynolds, who was elected to the Royal Academy in 1787. Including a life of Northcote. Edited by Edmund Southey Rogers. Bookplate of Davis Morris to the front paste down. Ink inscription of Peter Lethbridge to the front paste down. CONDITION In a full morocco binding. Externally, generally smart, with light rubbing to the spine and extremities. Very small cracks to the head and tail of the front joint. Spine is a little faded. Minor bumping to the extremities. Front hinge is starting but firm. Bookplate and ink inscription to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Overall Condition: Very Good GLOSSARY OF TERMS Overall Condition (Dustwrapper condition rating is shown after that for the book itself, where a dustwrapper is present) Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear Very Good Indeed - Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy Very Good - Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy Good - Meaning not very good. Some more serious faults as will be described in the condition report under 'condition' Good Only - Meaning one or more faults that could really do with repair Fair - As with good only above but with other faults leaving a compromised copy even after repair Poor - Really bad and possibly seriously incomplete.
