In Britain, many readers who were sceptical of French philosophy in general, welcomed her books because they presented many of Rousseau's methods while at the same time attacking his principles. Complete in two volumes. CONDITION Rebound in half-calf bindings with marbled boards. Externally, smart, with only some slight rubbing. Internally, firmly bound. Bookplate to front pastedown. Pages are bright, and generally clean, though with some occasional spotting. I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
