A collection of Ancient English poems, a notable anthology. This work was unusual for its omission of classic authors, such as Chaucer, Shakespeare, and Milton. Instead, the editor focuses on little-known and rarely read poets. Compiled and edited by Henry Headley, an English poet who died young of consumption. Bookplate to the front pastedown of 'Allan Freer'. CONDITION Rebound in a quarter morocco binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, fine. Bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean, with just a few odd spots. Small repair to the gutter of the title page of Volume I. This now sits alongside a companion volume, another work of Worcestershire historian and antiquarian, John Noak. I very much looking forward to reading it.
