This is a revised version of Charles Cotton's translation. A collection of the influential essays written by the French philosopher Michel de Montaigne. The essays were originally written in Middle French during the French Renaissance, published roughly between the years 1570 to 1592. The essays themselves cover a wide variety of subjects, from philosophy and religion, to cannibals, age, drunkenness, friendships, education, physiognomy, vanity, thumbs, anger, books, fear, imagination, and many more topics. Montaigne is known for popularising essays as a literary genre, and his essays have proven to be some of the most influential ever written. His works influenced the likes of Francis Bacon, William Shakespeare, Blaise Pascal, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and Friedrich Nietzsche. Advertisement leaf to rear of volume II. The shipping was lightning fast, arriving in 3 days from UK to US. The book was packaged with extreme care, very important for an antique book. The overall condition of the book is also unbelievable for its age, even better than described. I’ve purchased numerous other books from this seller, and the quality and price have always been outstanding. Great eBay seller. Thanks!
