John Milton (1608 - 1674)was an English poet and intellectual who served as a civil servant for the Commonwealth of England under its Council of State and later under Oliver Cromwell. Considered the “greatest English author” and generally regarded “as one of the preeminent writers in the English language” John Dryden, an early enthusiast, in 1677 began the trend of describing Milton as the poet of the sublime. Many enlightenment thinkers of the 18th century revered and commented on Milton’s poetry and non-poetical works—Alexander Pope, Joseph Addison, Thomas Newton and Samuel Johnson amongst the intellectuals who admired his poetry. He is stated as being second to William Shakespeare as the greatest English poet and writer. The first collection of Milton’s Prose Works, preceding by one year Toland’s edition of 1698. The shipping was fast and the book was extremely well packaged. The book itself is exactly as pictured and although rare books are expected to be expensive, I was able to get a small discount that at least covered the shipping. I'm happy with my purchase, so I can say that it was a good value. I love to find old relics that kind of come full circle to find their home. Welcome home to this little gem in the form of a small book. I will take very good care of you! I highly recommend this seller.

Just picked up my package from Robin Rare Books and let me start by saying WOW!!! Book as advertised for sure. the value of the book certainly dictated some care in shipping but never did I think to this extent. The packaging was incredible. bigger box than needed at first thought but after opening based on the care and multiple layers of packing It would have survived a Tank rolling over it. Very grateful for you listing and working with me on the book, true piece of history I will cherish

I recently discovered Folio Society books and purchased a number of them from this site to add to my library of Easton Press books. I had a positive experience with each seller. They carefully wrapped the books in packing material to prevent damage during shipping. The books arrived in the condition described. I am looking forward to reading each and every one. I recommend them all.
